Shaping Our Lives by Shaping Our Words (Week 1)

What benefits can writing provide – physically, mentally, emotionally, spiritually? We know now that the words we use and the stories we tell shape our daily experiences. Learn to shape words that bring out the best in you—and others. In this class incorporating Dr. James Pennebaker’s ground-breaking work, you’ll practice holistic, whole brain writing approaches that broaden your perspectives and deepen your compassion. And, if you’re interested, you’ll create new poetry, creative nonfiction, and/or fiction.

The Intersection of Food and Story (Week 8)

Food not only nurtures and sustains us, it’s also a rich source for writing. We’ll explore connections between food and story in our lives as we write of when, where, what, with whom, how — and even why — we ate. We’ll learn from the work of accomplished writers too. You can use the tools you’ll learn to create individual essays, stories, or poems, scenes in fiction or memoir, a food blog, or even a family cookbook.
